Probe sonicator is a device with is used to break down samples in nano particle sizes with the help of a titanium probe and an ultrasonic generator. A probe sonicator is also called ultrasonic probe sonicator or ultrasonic homogenizer. There are four important parts of a probe sonicator; ultrasonic generator, transducer, titanium probe and a sound proof box.
Important Parts of a Probe Sonicator
- Utrasonic Generator: An ultrasonic generator generates power to drive ultrasonic transducer. It is fitted with a touch screen controller which allows operator to adjust the power amplitude, timer and temperature etc.
- Transducer: A transducer converts electrical energy into ultrasonic power. It is connected via cable from the generator. It also has a threaded end to connect probe tip.
- Probe tip: A probe is fitted to the transducer which amplifies high frequency mechanical vibrations helping to crush samples. Only the probe tip remains in direct contact with the sample.
- Sound proof box: Although it an optional part but very important. This enclosure minimizes the noise during the operation; it also minimizes the risk of mishandling.
